Incontriamo i vincitori del Trofeo Laigueglia: Davide Cimolai partenza con il botto

Davide Cimolai compirà 32 anni ad agosto e si appresta a disputare la 12^ stagione tra i professionisti con la maglia della Israel Start-Up Nation, ormai può considerarsi un veterano del gruppo, ha corso le tre grandi gare a tappe per non parlare delle principali classiche a cominciare della Milano – Sanremo che disputerà a marzo per il decimo anno consecutivo.
Torniamo indietro al 2015 quando vinse il Trofeo Laigueglia: “Ricordo bene le fasi salienti della gara – racconta l’atleta friulano – sino a quel giorno avevo vinto soltanto una cronosquadre, ero arrivato ben preparato deciso giocarmi le mie carte, eravamo rimasti un gruppetto di 15/20 corridori, poi il grande lavoro del mio compagno di squadra Niemec per vanificare l’attacco di Gerdemann, ripreso l’attaccante sul Capo Mele dovevo solo pensare alla volata, dove ho tagliato i traguardo a braccia alzate, alle mie spalle Gavazzi e Catevic”.
Il 2015 è una stagione indimenticabile, Cimolai riuscirà a ripetersi il mese dopo vincendo la 5° tappa della Parigi – Nizza la Saint Etienne – Rasteau.
In questi giorni si trova a Girona con il team per affinare la preparazione ed essere pronto per un inizio di stagione con il botto: “Si parte con la Volta e la Comunitat Valenciana, a seguire la Clasica de Almeria  e la Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Del Sol, giusto il tempo di ritornare in Italia ed eccoci a “Laigueglia” il mio primo grande obiettivo di stagione”.

A seguire, Tirreno – Adriatico,  Milano – Sanremo per poi essere alla partenza del Giro d’Italia, insomma  il calendario è decisamente impegnativo.

“I prime mesi saranno molto importanti, oltre il “Laigueglia” spero di fare bene alla “Sanremo” una corsa che ormai conosco a memoria”.
Per un professionista la 12^ stagione è un traguardo significativo, Cimolai è ancora giovane, svolge il “mestiere” con serietà ed abdicazione, la passione è l’entusiasmo non mancano, un fatto è certo dalle due corse liguri si aspetta molto, sicuramente saprà regalare ai suoi tifosi e al team delle soddisfazioni.

“The first months will be very important, besides the Trofeo Laigueglia, I hope to do well at the Milano-Sanremo a race that I know very well.

For a professional cyclist, the 12th season is a significant milestone, Cimolai is still young, he carries out his “job” with seriousness and abdication, there is no lack of passion and enthusiasm, one fact is certain: he expects a lot from the two Ligurian races, he will surely know give his fans and the team some satisfaction.

Incontriamo i vincitori del Trofeo Laigueglia: Simone Velasco punta al bis

A definirla un’impresa del ciclismo d’altri tempi può sembrare retorica, ma quella fuga solitaria di Simone Velasco è una di quelle azioni che non si vedono tutti i giorni. Era il 2019 quando con la maglia della Neri Sottoli Selle Italia KTM,  al termine di una fuga di circa 50 chilometri tagliò il traguardo a braccia alzate sul rettilineo di via Roma.
“Avevo un’ottima condizione venivo da un periodo trascorso in altura e dalla Vuelta di San Juan in Argentina – racconta Velasco – bisognava rischiare, andare all’attacco senza avere paura, all’inizio del terzo giro della salita di Colla Micheri ho capito che potevo farcela, la vittoria era alla mia portata”.
La conferma della condizione raggiunta arrivò pochi giorni dopo con la conquista della 3^ tappa della Settimana di Coppi e Bartali, ora è giunto il momento di fare la tripletta.
Bravo Velasco che si appresta ad affrontare la 6^ stagione nel mondo dei professionisti dove ha esordito nel 2016 con la la Bardiani CSF: “Cinque anni, ma è come se ne avessi corso soltanto tre, nel 2016 a causa della mononucleosi e lo scorso anno a seguito della pandemia l’attività è stata molto ridotta, spero di rifarmi nel 2021”.
Le intenzioni sono chiare Velasco e  la Gazprom RusVelo puntano al Trofeo Laigueglia per iniziare nel migliore dei modi la stagione, alla grande in cerca di vittorie.
Non a caso l’atleta dell’isola dell’Elba ha cominciato a macinare chilometri sulle strade di casa favorito dalle condizioni climatiche. Era previsto il ritiro con la squadra e le prime corse in Spagna, ma la pandemia ancora una volta ha finito per metterci lo zampino, i primi mesi della stagione che va a cominciare rischiano di essere complicati ed i cambi di programma sono all’ordine del giorno.
La Liguria tutto sommato gli ha sempre portato fortuna, nel 2019 era stato tra i protagonisti del Giro dell’Appennino ed anche quest’anno se non ci fosse stata una sbandata nella volata finale in via XX Settembre avrebbe potuto aspirare al podio andando ben oltre l’11° posto.
Giunto 13° al Laigueglia un buon piazzamento all’Appennino gli avrebbe permesso di indossare la maglia del Challange Liguria che  vuole premiare quel corridore che ha ottenuto i migliori risultati nelle due gare, bissando così il successo dell’anno precedente che era arrivato in virtù del successo ottenuto a Laigueglia. 
Un fatto è certo mercoledì 3 marzo Velasco si farà trovare pronto per cercare di rivivere quella bella esperienza del 2019, è determinato e vuole tornare ad alzare le braccia al cielo.

We meet the winners of the Trofeo Laigueglia: Simone Velasco aims for an encore

It may seem rhetorical to define it as a cycling enterprise of yesteryear, but that solitary escape by Simone Velasco is one of those actions that are not seen everyday.

It was 2019 when with the Neri Sottoli Selle Italia KTM jersey, at the end of a break of about 50 kilometers, he crossed the finish line with his arms raised on the straight of via Roma.

“I had an excellent condition I came from a period spent on the heights and from the Vuelta di San Juan in Argentina – says Velasco – you had to take risks, go to the attack without being afraid, at the beginning of the third lap of the Colla Micheri climb I realized that I could do it, victory was within my reach”.

The confirmation of the condition reached came a few days later with the conquest of the 3rd stage of the Settimana di Coppi e Bartali, now it is time to make the hat-trick.

Bravo Velasco who is preparing to face the 6th season in the professional world where he made his debut in 2016 with the Bardiani CSF: “Five years, but it’s as if I had only run three, in 2016 due to mononucleosis and last year following the pandemic, the activity was very reduced, I hope to make up for it in 2021”.

The intentions are clear Velasco and Gazprom RusVelo are aiming for the Trofeo Laigueglia to start the season in the best possible way, looking for victories.

It is no coincidence that the athlete from the Isola d’Elba began to grind kilometers on the home roads favored by the climatic conditions. The retirement with the team and the first races in Spain were planned, but the pandemic once again ended up getting a problem, the first months of the season that is about to start risk being complicated and the program changes are on the order of day.

All in all Liguria has always brought him luck, in 2019 he was among the protagonists of the Giro dell’Appennino and also this year if there hadn’t been a crush in the final sprint in via XX Settembre he could have aspired to the podium going far beyond the ’11th place.

Having finished 13th at Laigueglia, a good placement in the Apennines would have allowed him to wear the Challange Liguria jersey which wants to reward the rider who achieved the best results in the two races, thus repeating the success of the previous year that had arrived by virtue of the success obtained in Laigueglia.

One fact is certain on Wednesday, the 3th of March, Velasco will be ready to try to relive that beautiful experience of 2019, he is determined and wants to return to raise his arms to the sky.
